Dear Parents,

We are currently working on our City of Whittier Banners in art. Ten designs submitted by our students were chosen as winners, and we have a team of students helping them. Please SEE THE ATTACHED FILE. It is a permission slip to work on the banners after school on minimum days and selected regular days. PLEASE fill this permission slip and return it ASAP. I am also sending a hard copy home with your child. All students may come in and help with painting the banners, as long as I have your permission.

These banners are quite large, approx 2.5 x 11 ft, and will be on display along Whittier Blvd. from May to July.

 

If your child is on the list, they were given a congratulations letter. If you have not seen that letter I will attach the file in a separate announcement. If your child's design was not chosen, their original designs will still be on display in an album at City Hall during the May 22nd reception and ALL are encouraged to attend the reception from 5:30-7pm. Many of them are helping their classmates draw and paint the banners as a team and we are all very proud of their efforts and they will be excited to see them up on display along the boulevard.

 

 

I am asking that in addition to working on them during class, that the teams of students, with your permission, also work on them after school on minimum days (3/20, 4/3, 4/10) for 2 hours: 12:00-2:00pm and on selected regular days (4/4, 4/6, 4/9, 4/12) from 2:30-4:00pm. Because we will be on Spring Break, we will be losing valuable time to paint them. A few of the students are volunteering to bring their banners home.

 

If that is your child, please understand that I cannot provide you with extra paint, and that you will need to have materials at home to paint with.

We can only use ACRYLIC PAINTS and I am providing paint while they are here at school. However, if these banners go home, you will need to have or get acrylics and paint brushes. Michael's always has coupons online or on their app.
