Andrews is the TK-8 school in the Whittier City School District. Located in Avocado Heights, the close-knit community ushers in a history of longstanding tradition and multi-generational families.
We pride ourselves in the belief and practice to empower all of our students to engage in high levels of learning. We nurture and invest in the whole child and tend to their social and emotional needs. We prepare our students to impact their communities positively. As a staff, we purposefully learn about our students across the grade levels and support one another to help build a firm academic and social foundation. Teachers work collaboratively to design reading and writing units that provide students with the skills and strategies to excel in literacy. Grade-level teams identify essential standards in mathematics, resulting in consistent progression of skills and conceptual development.
Our students have the opportunity to experience up to 10 years of education at Andrews. This creates a strong sense of belonging and community among students, teachers, staff, and families. Students carry meaningful relationships across the grade levels with the support of our big and little buddy system. This mentorship pairs grade levels together and prepares our oldest wildcats to be role models while connecting our youngest wildcats to learn by example.
Andrews received the National Blue Ribbon recognition in 2014. Since then, the school has expanded from a graded K-6 to a TK-8 school. As of September 19th, we have officially been named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School! We pride ourselves on the excellence we've maintained over the years.
We welcome you to our school and look forward to growing & learning alongside you.
Thankfully,
Mrs. Heidi Rico Magaña
